Everyone grew up with spaghetti. It was once our comfort food when we were little, the first dish that lead us to discovering our culinary talent. And most of all, it witnessed every big and little celebrations that our family once has. Though it is not a staple Filipino food, let’s admit it, birthdays are not complete without our good old spaghetti. It has witnessed our growing lives and forms part of the kind of person that we are now.
Our spaghetti served in dim lights, antique decors, stained Tiffany glass lamps hovering over mahogany tables, and comfortable bunk seating upholstered with fine fabrics recreates a piece of memory our childhood. This is basically the kind of nostalgic euphoria The Old Spaghetti House wanted to project as they serve mouthwatering spaghetti cooked to perfection that fits the taste of eve child in us.
Living up to their motto, “Treasures waiting to be discovered,” the Old Spaghetti House exudes more than a sense of familiarity with their ambiance and recipe, they also have prepared a menu that works more like a treasure chest that would unravel their unique and extraordinary offerings right before our taste buds. From the traditional meatballs spaghetti to their homegrown rice meals recipe, the Old Spaghetti House is indeed successful in serving exceptional food in an extraordinary ambiance at an affordable price.
As for me, the Old Spaghetti House changed the way I have always known pasta and it took appreciative taste for spaghetti into the next plateau. Admittedly, I’m not a big fan of spaghetti. I’m more of a rice person and the Thai bagoong pasta tied the knot between my interest on pasta and my love of rice. The ensemble of sweet and salty entrée present in the alamang sauce sautéed with pork and chicharon bits is reminiscent of the binagoongan that we normally have at home. The dash of parsley matched with green mango salad preserved the Thai-inspired flavor. All in all, the Thai bagoong pasta made me think out of the typical pan and opened my culinary imagination to a myriad of possibilities that we could actually combine with pasta.
Another treasure that I have discovered during my Old Spaghetti House experience is their trio treat that is designed to triple treat either a one really hungry person or two to three person sharing this one-of-a-kind pasta experience. We were treated with their bestsellers that comprises of an appetizer sampler consisting of deep-fried battered squid rings, chicken fingers, and onion with aioli dip. The bestseller trio also comes with their superb spaghetti pesto topped with grilled chicken and their signature four-cheese pizza.
Our sweet tooth were also in for a sweet treat with a trio dessert – sugar-free chocolate moose, funnel cake dashed with powdered sugar and whipped cream, and frozen mud pie that is a wacky concoction of vanilla ice cream topped with crushed cookie bits, cashew nuts, and glazed with chocolate syrup. The trio experience is indeed fit for a king, a one person with a huge appetite and a perfect and affordable choice for friends and lovers alike who’d love to share a unique and yet familiar dining experience that is reminiscent of those memorable family dinners that left an indelible imprint in our hearts and mind.
