We all have our own hotel stories to tell. Some ridiculously hilarious, others just plain ridiculous. As a group, we’ve shared these stories with one another. We’ve all felt disappointment, but most of the time we have that “I’d definitely want to stay here again!” comments. May it be good or bad, we have concluded that it’s a definite plus to our travel experiences.
Sometimes, when we get to stay in hotels, we end up getting homesick, looking for our beds that are several miles away. But one unforgettable experience we will never forget is our stay at Microtel Puerto Princesa. Here is the story of our short, but sweet stay, in this hotel we called our home for two nights.
What’s in here?
I’ve passed by several Microtels already, and I notice the “friendly” appearance of all of them. Their very bright colors entice people to come in. Upon saying that, Microtel Puerto Princesa is just one of the 10 Microtels in the country.
In Palawan, Microtel is a bit special because it is the first beachfront hotel. Besides Palawan, their other beachfront hotels are found in beach-haven Boracay, and also in Mactan, Cebu. According to Resident Manager Rene Suarez, Microtel Puerto Princesa is also the first hotel belonging to an international chain to be put up in Palawan.
This Mediterranean-inspired hotel has lots of blues and whites, giving every part of the hotel a relaxed feel. Their lobby is non-airconditioned, but the breeze gently sweeps around it making it cool. The hotel has 50 rooms—four suites, 22 premium rooms facing the beach, 27 premium rooms facing the lagoon, and one VIP/Family Room—which are all spacious, bright, and has a very homey feel.
According to Suarez, aside from having comfortable rooms where tired travelers and tourists can come home to at the end of the day, Microtel also boasts of flat screen television sets and most of all, orthopedic beds. As for me, this was the best deal as my lower neck and back didn’t protest with dull aches.
Aside from making Microtel the best hotel to stay in, in terms of their rooms, Suarez adds that they want to entice customers through convenience. One of their plans is to make their hotel the starting of point to Puerto Princesa’s main attractions—the Subterranean River and Honda Bay tours, as well as the firefly watching. This is actually easy for them to do when they get to finalize their plans as the beach is just right at their backyard.
Suarez proudly shares to parents who are a bit wary of the big blue open sea, that their beach is very child-friendly. He says that even when you’re far from the beach, the water is still shallow. In addition to that, Suarez also says that since the beach is in a cove, the waves aren’t that big, making swimming very safe for children and adults alike.
But wait! There’s more!
Microtel’s tagline says, “The same great hotel everywhere you go.” But in Puerto Princesa, there’s much, much more at stake. The hotel is fully operational already, but there are still much more to do. Of course, these future plans promise to give those who would be staying at Microtel a cool twist.
Although still a baby compared to the other Microtel hotels in operation, this branch in Palawan is catching up, and fast! Says Roy Martin, Group Sales Director of Microtel Resorts and Hotels, that being the only beachfront hotel in Palawan, and having an entire area all to themselves, have worked to their advantage.
Situated some 20 minutes away from the city, some people might actually think it’s a bit of a hassle. But Microtel aims to provide the same activities without tourists/travelers having to go all the way out. As mentioned by Suarez, they have been fixing the route that leads to Honda Bay and the Subterranean River. But they have also plans in putting up facilities for kite boarding school. They also provide kayaks for those who would want to paddle out to the nearby sand bar.
Another thing that makes Microtel Palawan special is the Emerald Playa. Being situated within the Emerald Playa has given Microtel a big boost. Martin says that this gives them more room for local conventions and meetings. Martin says that local government units have already used these function rooms. He also adds that companies could also use the facilities for their teambuilding activities.
Lastly, as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Suarez says that they have been promoting employment —from their front desk to their general services personnel—within the nearby barangays, as well as from the other areas. He adds that senior citizens are also employed for the up keep of the grounds.
Another aspect of their CSR is their partnership with ABS-CBN and Mayor Edward Hagedorn’s community projects. Suarez elaborates that they have been helping out with projects concerned with promoting ecotourism such as the tree-planting activities.
The people in Microtel Palawan may have their hands full with their projects and developmental schemes. But still, they tirelessly serve the people who have taken their shot at staying at Microtel Puerto Princesa. With their unwavering hospitality and eagerness to serve, you would definitely say at the end of your stay that coming back IS an option.
