“Oh no, my leg hurts!” Such ouch-y remarks happen when you’ve been up and about all day while travelling or on transit.

Everyone wants a hassle-free trip. Long-haul flights are especially taxing on one’s body, not to mention the mental anguish one has to go through during check-ins and pre- flight preps.

A traveler’s to-do list tends to drag, but there is something not-on-your-list that you need to check on constantly. Just listen to what your body is trying say during those times.

While varicose veins tend to be genetic, leg cramps on the other hand can be acquired by sitting or standing for long hours. Imagine yourself on board the plane for about eight to sixteen hours long, yet even a three-hour hour flight can give you that painful stinging ripple on both legs.

Veins run throughout our body to carry oxygen and help the blood circulate properly. Keeping legs in a still position for a long period of time blocks circulation and is so unhealthy. Here are some tips to pamper those legs and max out the fun in any travel:

  1. MOVE. Shift your legs every 15 minutes. In-flight, move your feet forward and extend those legs for some time. Do the same routine repeatedly. This will keep your legs and hamstrings pain-free.
  2. HYDRATE. This is just about the cheapest and most convenient way to replenish your body’s electrolytes. Drink plenty of water before and after flight. This will ensure good body circulation and will also help your legs from having muscle cramps.
  3. PROP-UP. While inside your hotel room after jogging, long walks or just being sedentary for a long time, rest those legs please. Put a small pillow at the back of your knees and prop ‘em up for at least 20 minutes.
  4. LOOSEN UP. Tired, strained legs can be an indication of spine and/or back problems. Be careful on your positioning. Be cautious while engaging in any sports and other activities that may trigger or cause other health problems.
  5. RUB. Bring pain liniments to ease muscle and leg pain temporarily. But if the pain is persistent and unbearable, consult your physician.
  6. MASSAGE. You can give your legs a break by having a full body massage to prep up certain points and muscles especially on the lower part of your body. This can ease tiredness, and prevent varicose veins’ appearance.

Take heed, the most important thing is listening to your body’s language. Stay fit and healthy to travel. Take good care of those legs, because they will take you to many wonderful places all over.
