I was really hoping to bump into Johnny Depp during our stay in Bellarocca. Rumors had it that Madonna stayed in the resort and Michael Jackson had a vacation there before he died. However, whether these are as true as Brangelina’s visit to Boracay, one thing is certain, the place is created for those who wish to feel like gods, godesses, or Hollywood actors.
I knew I would be a VIP for a few days when the Bellarocca stickers and luggage tags were delivered days prior to our trip. True enough, the hospitable staff of Bellarocca were indeed prompt and welcoming at the Marinduque airport that all we had to do was ride the van for a 40-minute trip to the port which would bring us to the island.
It was a beautiful day when our boat neared the island on our first day. The sky spread its shades of blue on the horizon and created a perfect contrast with the whitewashed structure of Bellarocca. One iconic place will definitely come to mind when you get a glimpse of the resort—Santorini.
Though the resort is Greek-inspired, there is still that distinct Filipino feel in it. The welcoming committee sang local songs while showering the guests with petals as the staff of Bellarocca greeted us with warm smiles and enthusiastic handshakes.
It was definitely a good beginning of the trip. And more was to be unfolded as our golf cart climbed the steep road leading to the villas.
Definitely beyond basics
Compromise was definitely in the vocabulary of the ones who constructed Bellarocca. From the hotel rooms to the villas, opulence was an understatement.
Nestled on the cliff is one of the villas, Neptune. The doors of this villa open up to a private paradise. The majestic Mount Malindig provides a breathtaking backdrop to the placid infinity pool and outdoor Jacuzzi. Rows of white pillars lined the perimeters of the pool and the comforable couches and beach chairs gave a preview of how relaxing it is to just indulge in the silence of the island as you allow your thoughts to wander with the softy breeze.
However, it was our first day and exploring our private paradise won over the excitement of a lazy afternoon. Perhaps one of the most impressive parts of the villa is the living room as it surely won’t let you miss the techy stuff you left at home. The living room is equipped with state-of-the-art home theater system which amps up the experience of watching movies on DVD and cable TV. The iPod deck also allowed a personal selection of music which can blast through the speakers to customize the mood. In our case, the familiar rhythm of The Killers’ Mr. Brightside created a fun and excited mood for an afternoon swim.
Each villa also has its own kitchen and maids’ quarters. In case the guests would want their dishes served hot and sizzling in their rooms, the staff of Bellarocca can prepare it right in their own villa. Since two-bedroom villas are advisable to families, a butler service is also available to further heighten the luxurious experience. These villas are created differently. One of the one-bedroom villas, Balhala, does not only have a plasma TV, it has a projector screen so guests can watch movies with the cinematic effect.
Other accomodation options are garden villas, which is advisable for families with children so their youngsters are safe to play outside the house, hotel rooms, terrazas, which also offers a view of the sea and mountain, and casas, which are duplex-type of accomodation.
The Bellarocca advantage
According to John Tanjangco, Director of Sales and Marketing of Bellarocca Island Resort and Spa, as much as possible, they try not to say “no” to the requests of the guests. Whether they would want to have a picnic in one of the spots in the island or if they have a special request in the menu, the very able staff of Bellarocca can grant their wishes. He also shared that they were able to help with the success of someone’s wedding proposal where fireworks fired up through the air at Romeo’s cue.
There is an air of exclusivity everywhere in Bellarocca. Honeymooners can definitely get their share of privacy and families or groups of friends can feel the worth of their vacation. Even the goblets in the dining area cost less than Php2,000 each. Each dish also carefully prepared by the resort’s chef to provide a world-class quality dish in every table and plate.
Bellarocca also offers unique amenities for its guests. Aside fron its spa, which will formally open in December, there is also a remote spa atop the mountain where guests who wish for solitude can have their pampering treat from the resort’s well-trained therapists. Also, guests can indulge in the art of tea while being relaxed by the cliff view with the different flavors and infusions available in the tea room. Yoga sessions or self-reflection can also be done in the resor meditation area.
People can be literally transformed after their stay in Bellarocca Aside from recharging your body with the relaxing treats, there is also a beauty salon and cosmetic center available to those who wise to give science a chance to beautify them.
The waters surrounding the island could also be expolored with the resort’s aqua sports facilities. Snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, Hobie Cat sailing, and other water sports are available for the guests. And there is no need to worry with the vastness of the waters for a marine guard is just sailing behind the guests at a comfortable distance.
During our stay in Bellarocca, we also had the opportunity to attend an occassional cocktails hosted by the resort. This is the tin when the general manager mingles with the guests and makes the more comfortable during their stay.
Bellarocca raises the bar when it comes to offering quality amenities and service to its guests. And though I did not bump in Johnny Depp during my stay in Bellarocca, for a few days, it felt li I was a Hollywood actress in a secret vacation.
